對於Neil Strauss 在 The Game 中所建議的playing hard-to-get,Tyler Cowen 提出兩點質疑。第一是太容易被模仿,第二是”You have to get noticed in the first place!”

但在書上 (Discover Your Inner Economist: Use Incentives to Fall in Love, Survive Your Next Meeting, and Motivate Your Dentist)第84頁:

… I’ve played “hard-to-get” with Salma Hayek for years, yet this reticence paid few dividends, not even a courtesy e-mail or party invitation. …

Tim Harford 則認為”hard-to-get”是screen 而不是signal: 

… No, Tyler. “Hard to get” isn’t a signal, it’s a screen. When Salma finally turns up on your doorstep, you’ll know for sure that she’s serious about you.
